Sleeves Success!!!

Finally made a shirt with sleeves that I liked!!

And Tada! It even fits.  Seems so simple but getting over the sleeve hump has been a bit difficult, believe me this is not a first attempt.  There are a few things here and there that I would like to tweak but over all I am very happy with the outcome and glad I didnt give up.
For those on Instagram (we're ohstrumpets on there) you may have seem a similar photo of these wonky dresses.  These are some of the very first attempts I tried a year ago... they are uneven and messy but that is part of the learning process.  The more you practice the better you will get.  I encourage you to please not give up, just remember everyone that you admire started somewhere.

Feature Friday

Name: Ruby, and Shirley
Which stock doll is she? Ruby is a Prairie Posie, Shirley is a Simply Guava
Is she customized? If so, what work has she had done and by whom. If not, do you want to customize her or do you prefer her stock? Yes, I customized them. She's the third and fourth dolls I've customized, it's still so new to me! Their lips and nose have been carved. They've been boggled, gaze corrected, and given sleep eyes. I've given them lots of little freckles and glossed their lips. Ruby has also been given a Pure Neemo jointed body, which is so great for posing.
How long have you had her? Two years.
Your Name: Sarah Murray
How long have you been enjoying the blythe life? Five years
What do you like most about blythe? I love that Blythe dolls have such a sense of humor about them, and they are so fun to sew for!
Where can people find you? Blog? Online shop? Flickr? Twitter? Instagram? Facebook? blog: anyonecanquilt.com

flickr: anyonecanquilt
instagram: anyonecanquilt

Do you have any favorite Blythe related sites you like to visit? My favorite place to shop for Blythe clothes and furniture is etsy.com/taylorcouture

Everything Abi creates is exquisite!!

Anything else you would like to add about yourself? I live on the Oregon Coast with my husband, two girls, dog, cat, bird, guinea pig, and our sweet house rabbit, Charles. I love homeschooling my girls, and running my Etsy shop, where I create sweet quilts and bedding sets for Blythe dolls.

If you'd like to be on a Feature Friday please
Don't be shy, all are welcome.

Hi everyone!! We're still around I promise.  Things are just so so busy at the moment.  The gals are feeling a little neglected... but we plan on changing that ASAP!  We even got our tickets to BlytheconNYC and have been making travel plans.  Who else is going?  This will be our first adventure there so it's really exciting.  How many girls do you bring?  Imagine the airline working checking a suitcase full of bigheaded dolls... bahahahahaha, priceless.
I'm thinking of taking one or two gals I'm just not sure which ones yet.
I'm on the hunt for a new girl to add to the family but haven't found her yet.  If I find her this year she may be making the trip with me.  I seriously want a Melly Kay, a couple specific ones in particular but with my luck who knows.

Becky's gals relocated to a new home.  The Ikea expedit unit really is perfect for blythe, can't wait until all their rooms are set up :)

Long time no Blythe?!

Hey all!  It's been forever I know... things have just been busy around these parts. If you didn't know Becky got married!!!!!! The wedding was amazing and almost completely DIY so you can only imagine how much work she put into it.

We've been able to put up a few etsy listing here and there but there hasn't been much time for making tutorials or taking proper pictures of the girls but stay tuned we will soon :)

What has everyone been up to?  Any new girls move in?

Kawaii Kandy

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon some of the most amazing Blythe helmets from Maggi @Kawaii Kandy via Flickr the other day.  A short while later I saw her icecream helmet pop up on instagram.
The Blythe community is filled with so many creative people and they never cease to amaze me.  I know for some this is a business and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that but I think for most it is really a labor of love.  Even with just a glance you can see Maggi’s passion in each of these wonderful creations.
I urge you to take a peek at her flickr and better yet go check out her shop if you want to get your hands on one of these creations.
Which is your favorite?

Skirt tutorial

We're back!  I know it has been a while and postings have been few and far between.  Life gets busy you know?  I wish I had more free time for doll things but I'll take what I can get.  Ready to get started?  As always if you have questions leave them in the comments so I can answer them.  I'd also love to see all the skirts you make so email them to me oliveplusoh (at] gmail, or if you are on Instagram tag me in your pics @oliveoh and @ohstrumpets.
First you're going to want to start off with some fabric.  For this tutorial I am using fabric from ArtSchoolDropout's Spoonflower shop.  For this pattern I am going to cut a 9"x3" rectangle.
Gather the top of the fabric.  If you're new to sewing all I'm doing here is sewing across the top of the fabric with the longest stitch length on my machine.
Then you're going to pull one of the threads which makes the fabric bunch up (gather).
You are going to want the top of your fabric to measure at least 4 inches (if you want to be safe go for 5 inches, you can always cut off extra).  You are also going to need a strip of fabric for the top 6"x1"
Sew the extra strip of fabric to the one you gathered, prints facing each other.
See when you lift up the strip it looks likes this.
Now we are going to fold the strip over like this.  I only put the pins there to hold it in place so I could take a photo do not pin yours yet.
Fold it over one more time like this.  NOW you will need to pin in place.
All the way across
A view from the front.
Now we sew across.  I remove the pins as I go, I DO NOT sew over them.
{front}
{back}
Now onto the bottom of the skirt.  You could technically do this part first before you gather but I like to do it last so I can figure out how long/short I want my skirt to turn out.  I wrap it around a doll body and decide how I like it then iron it so I can sew the bottom edge.
Sew along the bottom edge and you'll have something that looks like this.  We're almost done :)
You're going to fold over the sides and sew on the velcro.
{inside}
{outside}
As you know velcro has two sides, a soft one and a rough one.  I put the soft one on the inside (wrong side) of the fabric and the rough on the outside..the side with the print.
There you have it!

Here are a bunch I made this weekend.
The hedgehog/mushroom and the space invaders are available for purchase in the easy shop.  The others have been SOLD or given away via instagram.  They are $10 which includes shipping or 2 for $15.  I will be making more today that will be up for sale or you can email me at oliveplusoh -at- gmail if you would like a custom order :)

We make these tutorials in hopes they help people.  They are free to use for whatever you want, you can link back to them but don't steal the tutorials and pass them off as your own...that's just not nice.
If you'd like to make a $1 donation please use the button below...that's very sweet of you thanks xo.
